Equine photography workshops

My one-day equine photography workshops are about enabling you to capture the soul and spirit of the horse. I'll share some creative insight and equine photography experience and then we work with some beautiful horses in a variety of locations to create images that you’ll be proud to own. These one-day courses are suitable both for those new to equine photography and those already established and seeking beautiful portfolio images.

Workshops for 2021:

The Essence of Equine Photography.

Location: Hinckley, Leicestershire

The Essence of Equine

Learn how to capture the spirit and essence of the horse to create fine art equine photography. We start the day learning about how to create strong compositions, how to position horses and how to capture expression and movement to create images with impact. You’ll also discover the importance of light and background choice in your work, and how to make the most of any lighting situation.

We’ll then head out on location to work with four horses, including two highly trained Iberians, where you’ll photograph their power and grace in a number of settings. Under my guidance you’ll create portraits, photograph the horses at liberty and incorporate some of the Iberians’ tricks – bowing, rearing and Spanish walk – into your compositions.

Suitable for all levels of photographer and all fitness levels.  Small groups – just six participants on each workshop.

Cost: £185 per person.

Saturday May 15th  - 1 place available

Saturday September 4th – 5 places available

All About Arabians

Location: Honiton, Devon

Experience the striking beauty of the Arabian horse on this workshop in Devon’s Otter Valley. Arabian horses are known for their elegance and spirit, and with their distinctive dished faces, exuberant action and high tail carriage they are a joy to photograph.

We’ll start with a look at how best to make beautiful images of these horses – how to position them to make the most of their exquisite features and how to capture their movement – both technically and artistically.   We’ll then head out into the pastures of the farm where we have the pleasure of working with 15-20 horses. Our shoots will be varied and will include some portraits, both individual and small group action shoots, and also some time spent observing and photographing a herd high up on a hill, with stunning views.

Suitable for all levels of photographer. Participants should be willing to walk across hilly fields with uneven ground in places.

Small groups – maximum of six participants.

Saturday May 22nd - 5 places available
